Before starting this project, I needed to settle on a film stock. Or at least narrow it down.
The three contenders: Ilford HP5+ 400, Kodak Tri-X 400 and Fomapan 400. All ISO 400, all classic black and white emulsions, all with their own character.
HP5+ is forgiving and versatile. Tri-X has that legendary grain structure. Fomapan is affordable and unpredictable in the best way.
I'm starting with HP5+ for its latitude — you can push it to 1600 and still get usable results. But I'll be rotating through all three throughout the year.
