Color is distracting. Not always, but often enough that I wanted to strip it away and see what remains.
When you remove color from a photograph, you're left with form, light, texture and tone. The image has to stand on its own without the crutch of a beautiful sunset or a vibrant street scene.
This year, I'm committing to shooting exclusively in black and white. One year. No color. Let's see what happens.
